DIET FOR DIABETICS....



In Insulin dependent diabetic mellitus also known as juvenile onset diabetic patients depend on Insulin there is usually sudden onset and occur in younger age group and there is an inability of pancreas to produce adequate amount of Insulin. This may be caused by virus (coxsackic virus) or due to auto immunity.

CALORIE DISTRIBUTION:

CARBOHYDRATES: Carbohydrates are the polyhydroxy aldehydes and ketoses. These are derived into three groups monosaccharides, disaccharides, and trisaccharides. Glucose is belongs to the simple sugar of monosaccharides.
50-60 percent calories should be from carbohydrates
PROTEIN: Proteins are the building blocks of amino acids 20 percent of calories should be from high biological protein is given
FATS: These are the esters of lipids Fat should contribute 20-25 percent of total calories Vitamins and minerals are to be supplemented increases
ZINC: Important for insulin activity, antioxidant


INSTRUCTIONS




  • Physical activity is very important
  • Providing food to the body for every two hours
  • Small and frequent meals should be taken
  • Avoid fruit juices, outside foods, bakery items
  • Better to take fruits directly
  • Half litre cooking oil is enough for per person per month
  • Avoid presevative pickles
  • Avoid groundnuts and coconut
  • Do not drink coconut water
  • 3-4 litres of water should be taken
  • Avoid deepfried foods
  • AVOID FIVE FRUITS
              Banana, custard apple, sapota, white grapes and Mango

Break fast   Vermicelli upma with vegetables Roasted bengal gram dal chutney
Mid morning     Fenugreek seeds with curd
papaya

Whole green gram dal
Bitter gourd soya curry
Butter milk
Snack     Jamun fruit
Sugarless tea
Dinner Methi roti
Tomato ridge gourd curry
Butter milk
Bed time Fruit salad


JUSTIFICATION OF DIET:

  1. As patient is a diabetic sugar free diets are preferred in the diet. In the early morning skimmed milk is given without sugar because in skimmed milk 0.1 percent of fat.
  2. To increase fibre, vitamins and mineral content. vermicelli upma with vegetables is given in the breakfast. Roasted bengal gram dhal chutney is given to improve the protein.
  3. Fenugreek seeds and papaya are given in the mid morning to improve the vitamin and minerals content fenugreek seeds has hypoglycemic effect.
  4. Jeera rice was included because it has high amount of magnesium, Roti with green gram dal to improve the protein content.
  5. To improve protein and fibre content soya chunks are added in the menu. methi roti and apple included to improve the fibre content. Bitter gourd that has hypoglycemic effect.
  6. Short meals are planned rather than large meals.

  • The whole calories must met with RDA +_ 50.
  • Better to add two cereals in one meal like wheat and rice.
  • Do not seived the flours for making chapathi because it reduce the bran quantity.
  • Some refined flours are there like maida, corn flour should be taken in limited quantity.
  • Fibre containing foods should be included in the diet.
  • Protein containing food should be included more than three serving portions per day.
  • Daily minimum 500ml of milk should be taken.
  • Include atleast one small fruit in every meal.
  • Egg white is better to preferable.
  • Avoid egg yolk, fruit juices because it losses the vitamin c, fiber.
  • Avoid to take more amount of salt and sugar.
  • Tonned milk is preferable because it contains less fat.
  • Half litre cooking oil is enough for one person per month.
  • Adequate amount of water should be taken.

DIET CHART FOR 4-6 YEARS CHILDREN



According to RDA 4-6 years old children
BODY WEIGHT- 18 KGS
ENERGY- 1350
PROTEIN-20.1
FAT-25g
CALCIUM - 600mg
IRON - 13mg
VITAMIN A- 400-3200IU
VITAMIN C- 40mg


Diet chart:


Early morning : Milk

Break fast:   Multi grains Roti, or Ragi Idly, Dosa

Mid morning:  Egg white ( only egg white)

Lunch:  Soft rice ( for easy digestion) add some dal and some ghee, small amount of curd rice

Snacks: Fruit salad, Biscuits, Carrot kheer, Glass of milk, Apple.
 
Dinner: Rice, Rasam (india), some curd

Bed time: Milk.
 
 
Children with pica are at increased risk for lead poisoning, Iron deficiency anaemia and parasitic infections. you should only give boiling water, maintain hygine your surroundings.

SMALL AND FREQUENT MEALS INSTEAD OF HUGE MEALS.......

 
 


 

     Human eating habits are very important. Nutritionist should respect their eating habits while making recommendations. so, many ways to eat to be healthy. It is suggest to eat small and frequent meals instead of huge meals.

Children should always like different types of foods they need variety of foods to satisfy appetite, young children require soft diet, pregnant ladies needs all green leafy vegetables in their diet. Heavy work man requires extra calories.







Save time and energy: The preparing recepies should be simple and nutritious. Preparing foods which are available locally, always prefer to use convenience foods.
 
It should be economic constraints: By using bulk purchasing method easily reduced the cost of meals and all. Always using seasonal fruits and vegetables.
 
It should provide more nutrients: Always prefer pressure cooking methods. we  lost so much of nutrients while boiling, and leaching methods.
 

Avoid to eat outside foods like bakery items, children must attract those foods in take of nutrients are lack then nutrition defeciency can spread easily on earth. By habituate those foods so many health problems facing like obesity- school going children obesity. So, better to avoid out side foods having adequate nutrients be healthy be happy........
